School settles binge drinking suit

SEPTEMBER 14, 2000 The Massachusetts Institute of Technology has agreed to pay $4.75 million to a family whose son died after a night of binge drinking at a fraternity. The school will also create a $1.25 million scholarship fund in the memory Scott Krueger. Krueger was a freshman who pledged the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity. Before classes had even begun, he participated in an event designed for new pledges in which he drank large amounts of alcohol and fell into a coma, dying three days later. The fraternity no longer exists at the school. Get the Story:
