Expectant Moms: Gain weight
SEPTEMBER 28, 2000

The state of Colorado is urging expectant mothers to gain weight, citing a study in which the state had a high rate of low birth-weight infants.

The state's Department of Public Health and Environment commissioned a study to look into the issue. The state's rate has been above the national average for the last 50 years.

Smoking is attributed to be one of the leading causes of low birth-weight.
