FRIDAY, DECEMBER 20, 2002

Welcome to In The Hoop, Indianz.Com's occasional column about assorted Indian issues.

In The Hoop: The Scorecard
Is it Friday already? That means it's time for the weekly list of the movers and shakers in Indian Country and beyond.

The Winners
Tex Hall - You really did hit a home run during your television appearance this week. And we're glad it was you. Because if someone else had been there, it wouldn't have gone as well.

Consultation - You really work! Well that's what Auntie Gale has been saying to Congress and The Media. So it must be true.

Sen. Bill Frist - Your stock is rising. Smallpox shots for everyone!

Ross Swimmer - You beat the Indians. Again!

The Losers
Indians - So the Department of Interior screwed you on the reorganization. What else is new?

Donna Erwin - Everyone knew you were coming to DC except Judge Lamberth. Oops.

Dan DuBray - If you think your alleged "faxes" from the House subcommittee are going to convince tribal leaders of your honesty, we've got a sovereign strip club in Minnesota to sell you.

Tribal Lobbyists / Lawyers / Lovers - Where were you when this reprogramming effort was being pushed on the Hill? You were probably paying too much attention to the TIME report instead of doing your job.

In The Middle
Aurene Martin - Will you soon ascend to your perch of power once Neal McCaleb leaves? Or will you wait until a certain government attorney says it's ok? Such drama.

BIA E-mail - Depending on how this investigation turns out, you may never return! So much for those "You Know You're an Indian If..." chain letters we loved to receive. Thanks D, Thanks aurene_martin!

BIA Regional Directors / Agency Superintendents - Are you as worried about this reorganization as tribes? Well don't worry, you weren't consulted either.

Sen. Ben Nighthorse Campbell - "I've known Trent Lott for a long time. I've known him for 15 years, and I don't think he's got a prejudiced bone in his body. I think I would be sensitive to it a little more than some other people would." You're right, you should know a little better.
