Welcome to In The Hoop, Indianz.Com's occasional column about assorted Indian issues.

Too Hot for Indian Country!
In response to complaints about office thievery, Sen. Ben Nighthorse Campbell (R-Colo.), vice-chairman of the Senate Indian Affairs Committee , allowed Capitol Police to install a hidden camera in his office, reports Roll Call this week.

"The Capitol Police advised it," Campbell is quoted as saying. "We are not the only office, by the way."

But lest any tribal leader, lobbyist, lawyer or lover worry that his or her complaint session might show up on the next Jerry Springer video, put your fears aside. "It was only put on at night when nobody was there anyway, so we could see who the hell is coming in there at night," Campbell told the publication.

Besides, the surveillance equipment is long gone. Apparently, the culprit was caught and Campbell's jewelry is now safe again.

Speaking of eavesdropping devices, Roll Call also reports that an old office of Sen. Joseph Biden (D-Del.) was once bugged. That's how all that information about his failed presidential campaign got leaked out, he suggests.

You're Not Alone
Remember when Indian Country Today was denied press credentials to the White House and Capitol Hill? The snub garnered a mention in the paper recently, in case you forgot.

Well it turns out another publication, albeit one less grounded, has been turned down by the Almighty. But instead of appealing its case, WorldNetDaily is fighting back with an e-mail and public relations campaign that appears to have escalated.

Writes Roll Call: "WND CEO and Editor Joseph Farah said that if the publication doesn't get its way on April 15, there will be court action."

"`No question about it,' he said. 'There's not a doubt in my mind that we will get accredited one way or another.'"

Red Hot Merchandise
If you've been looking to buy your Fighting Whites merchandise, those crazy kids at the University of Northern Colorado have set up a web site for all your purchasing needs.

So head on over to the site because all proceeds are going to a scholarship fund. We predict the baby doll t-shirt and the sweatshirt will be seen at a pow-wow near you!
