Indian group excluded from elections

A decision by the Nicaragua Electoral Council to exclude an Indian group from an upcoming election has resulted in a week of confrontations, leaving at least one person dead.

The council ruled the group could not participate in municipal elections this Sunday because they missed the deadline for registering candidates. Riots have resulted in the city of the city of Puerto Cabezas.
