Chiapas violence follows new leader

DECEMBER 11, 2000 In a clash unrelated to the Zapatista Indian rights movement, 6 people were hurt on Saturday in a fight among villagers in the southern Mexican state of Chiapas. Supporters of two political rivals clashed in the town of Suchiate, near the Guatemalan border. Just the day before, the state inaugurated a new Governor, who promised to bring peace to the region.
