A final plea of innocence did not appear to help former Massachusetts Institute of Technology student Lori Berenson, who on Wednesday was convicted for the second time of aiding a terrorist group try to take over Peru's Congress.

After a few hours of deliberation, a civilian court in Lima returned a guilty verdict for the 31-year-old Berenson. She was immediately sentenced to 20 years in prison.

Berenson had already spent five years in a remote prison for her helping the Tupac Amaru Revolutionary Movement That verdict, however, had been overturned.

Berenson is promising an appeal.

The movement is named for Tupac Amaru, an Indian leader who was executed for arising against the Spanish in the 1700s.
