Colombia won't fumigate Indian lands

TUESDAY, JULY 31, 2001 Saying a court's temporary ban applies only to certain Indian lands, Colombia's anti-drug official said he will continue to fumigate coca and poppy fields with an herbicide foes say is dangerous. A judge last Friday ordered the government to assess the environmental and health effects of fumigation. But Gen. Gustavo Socha Salamanca says the government will continue spraying in other areas besides Indian lands because the judge did not mention specific communities. Get the Story:
