TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 11, 2001

At least ten judges, prosecutors and investigators have been murdered in Colombia while attempting to bring members of a rebel group to justice for one of the largest massacres in the country.

The January 27 massacre at Chengue has turned up at least 27 bodies. The United Self Defense Forces of Colombia (AUC) is blamed for the killings.

The State Department yesterday designated AUC a terrorist group targeting American interests. Secretary Colin Powell begins a two-day visit to Colombia today.
