THURSDAY, OCTOBER 18, 2001

A white man who admitted participating in attacks on Alaska Natives with a paint-ball gun wants to be let out of jail to serve the rest of his sentence on electronically monitored home arrest.

Since being put in jail, Charles Wiseman has been mostly in solitary confinement. According to prison officials, he is isolated to prevent him from feared violence by other inmates.

Wiseman was sentenced to six months on misdemeanor assault charges. He admitted to being in the car with two white teenagers during the Janaury attack, but denied making racist statements caught on videotape.

The status of the teenagers is not known because they are juveniles. They were kicked out of their high school in the spring, however.

One of the boys is Wiseman's brother.
