Senator and Vice Presidential candidate Joe Lieberman wants three towns in his home state of Connnecticut to enter into mediation with the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation.

But the towns of Ledyard, North Stonington, and Preston have rejected mediation so far. At least one leader says the renewed call for mediation, which was made by Lieberman and fellow Democratic Senator Christopher Dodd, and originally suggested by Representative Sam Gejdenson (D-Conn), is merely a political ploy.

The towns and the state oppose the expansion of the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation. They recently lost a lawsuit against the Department of Interior, whom they believe isn't allowed to take additional land into trust for the tribe.
