OCTOBER 3, 2000

The Mohegan Tribe of Connecticut has a new chairman of the tribal council, as Mark Brown has replaced incumbent Roland Harris.

The nine-member council voted 5-4 to give Brown the top spot. The tribe held elections for the council in August, bringing in the first new slate of leaders since the tribe opened its successful casino, Mohegan Sun, in 1996.

Brown, a former police officer, said he will lead the council by being a team player.
