Tribe wants town off reservation

OCTOBER 5, 2000 The Eastern Pequot Tribe of Connecticut is trying to keep the town of North Stonington off its 225-acre reservation. The tribe doesn't want town assessors coming onto its Lantern Hill reservation. The town says it needs to inspect homes in order for it to receive a payment from the state on the value of the homes. The leaders of the Paucatuck Eastern Pequot tribe, however, have consented to the assesment. The tribe also lives on the reservation. The land is held in trust by the state. Get the Story:
