Lawmakers in Connecticut are considering new proposals aimed at giving more money to the state to fight federal recognition and another that would make the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation pay for road construction.

Lawmakers from the northwestern part of the state are considering to give more money to Attorney General Richard Blumenthal to look over the BIA's recognition process. Blumenthal and his office have been critical of the recognition of tribes in the state.

Another lawmaker has already submitted a bill that would require the Mashantucket Tribe to pay for any improvements made on roads within 25 miles of their casino. According to state Senator Edith Prague, she didn't include the Mohegan Tribe in such a bill because they already have spent money on improvements.
