JANUARY 17, 2001

A group of dissidents who have occupied the Oglala Lakota tribal headquarters on the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota for a year on Tuesday said they have ended their campaign.

The group took over in hopes of highlighting corruption and bringing about better financial management. They say their goals have succeeded and expect indictments of some former tribal officials.

Some members of the group, though, say not enough change has occurred and vowed to continue their occupation.
