Comments sought on Pueblo land swap

DECEMBER 1, 2000 Public comments are being sought on a proposed land exchange between the New Mexico Pueblo of Santo Domingo and the Bureau of Land Management. The BLM has prepared a draft environmental impact statement on the transfer of 7,376 acres of land to the Pueblo. The statement proposes that the swap be made along with securing an easement from the Pueblo. Two other alternatives are offered. In exchange for the swap, the Pueblo would give as yet unidentified parcels of land to the BLM. As part of a land claims settlement recently signed into law, the Pueblo will receive $3.7 million in order to buy those parcels of land. Get the Draft EIS:
