FEBRUARY 28, 2001

The Paucatuck Eastern Pequot Tribe of Connecticut on Tuesday asked a federal judge to let them intervene in a lawsuit challenging their bid federal recognition.

The tribe, along with the Eastern Pequot Tribe, received preliminary recognition from the Bureau of Indian Affairs in March 2000. The state of Connecticut and three towns in January filed a lawsuit which seeks to overturn that decision.

The Eastern Pequot Tribe is also considering joining the lawsuit. It was filed in US District Court in Hartford, Connecticut.
