The state of Montana and the Bureau of Land Management completed a land swap on Tuesday aimed at correcting a 1891 surveyor's error which deprived the Crow Tribe of more than 44,000 acres of land.

The titles to 20,858 acres of former state land were granted to the Crow Tribe. Previously, 12,465 of state land and ,580 acres of Bureau of Land Management land were transferred.

The state in return got federal lands outside the reservation.
