Saying there is widespread misunderstanding about the difference between land claims and taking land into trust, the lawyer for the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation of Connecticut said he wants to clarify the issue.

Jackson King wrote a letter to Representative Rob Simmons (R-Conn) on the matter, saying the tribe is well within its rights to add 165 acres of land to its southeastern Connectictut reservation but the leaders of three local towns who want the Supreme Court to review the issue say they understand the tribe isn't making a land claim but that they can't add the land in question anyway.

The issue will be discussed at a field hearing in Hartford, Connecticut, Simmons has scheduled for Friday.
