MARCH 16, 2001 A consultant paid to develop a planning document has for the Connecticut town of North Stonington has removed his suggestion that they engage in discussion with three Pequot tribes. The consultant said the town needed to talk with the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation, the Eastern Pequot Tribe, and the Paucatuck Eastern Pequot Tribe because their futures were tied together. But the town didn't appreciate his suggestion and pressured him to remove it. The town opposes the expansion of the Mashantucket Reservation. They sued the Department of Interior for adding 165 acres of land to the reservation but lost last fall. The town also opposes the pending federal recogition of the other Pequot tribes. The two have been state recognized since the 17th century. Get the Story:
