MARCH 29, 2001 Opponents and supporters of a hotel tax imposed by the Navajo Nation discussed their views with Jodi Rave of the Lincoln Journal Star. Opponents say tribes don't have authority over non-Indian activities on non-Indian land. They say the tax is illegal and should be struck down. Supporters say the tax is a sovereign right of any government. They counter suggestions that it is taxation without representation. The Supreme Court heard arguments this past Tuesday.
