'Medicine man' settles lawsuit

MARCH 30, 2001 A self-described Native American Church medicine man on Thursday said he settled his discrimination lawsuit against the Utah Department of Corrections for $50,000. James "Flaming Eagle" Mooney alleged he was fired from his job in a Utah prison because of his race and religious beliefs. He is the leader of a local Native American Church group and is currently facing 13 felony drug charges and one count of racketeering stemming from a raid by Utah police, who found 12,000 peyote buttons at his chuch.
