MARCH 9, 2001

The Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma on Thursday announced it has settled some of its claims over federal funding with the Department of Interior.

The tribe was one of several who won a lawsuit over funding of self-determination contracts. For the years from 1989 to 1993, the tribe has agreed to settle for $4.3 million.

The tribe has other outstanding claims, stemming from Indian Health Service funding.
