APRIL 20, 2001

Wisconsin state investigators on Thursday called off a search for the remains of a student when it proved unsuccessful.

The state had brought in equipment owned by the Ho-Chunk Nation. The tribe has an underground radar system it uses to locate ancestral remains and police dug in an area the equipment indicated might contain some remains.

Police are searching for Amber Wilde, a University of Wisconsin-Green Bay student who has been missing since September 1998.
