The Coastal Miwok tribe of California hopes an anti-gaming clause in a proposed bill will help persuade Congress to restore their federal recognition status.

The bill will receive its first hearing on Tuesday.

The tribe had their federal recognition terminated by the California Rancheria Act of 1958. The tribe currently has a small one-acre homestead in Petaluma, California.

Another bill which lacks the anti-gaming clause is also before Congress. It would also grant federal recognition to the tribe and two other California tribes.
