MAY 5, 2000 The Schaghticoke, a state recognized tribe in Connecticut, will sue the Connecticut Light & Power Company and the US government over 148 acres located next to the tribe's reservation. The tribe claims the land was transferred without federal approval in 1912. Tribes like the Oneida Nation of New York and the Passamaquoddy of Maine have successfully used the 1790 Non-Intercourse Act to reclaim land. The suit will be filed in US District Court in New Haven, Connecticut. Source: Indian tribe sues CL&P over land claim (AP 5/5)
