MAY 5, 2000 Alaska Natives in rural Alaska got one step closer to maintaining an important cultural link. On Thursday, the Federal Subsistence Board declared the entire Kenai Peninsula eligible for rural subsistence priority. The move came in response to a request by the Kenaitze tribe. Non-Natives are also affected by the ruling, which gives the Kenai's residents preferential rights for fishing and hunting on federally managed lands and waters. Get the Story:
