Officials in the Connecticut town of North Stonigton are asking for $130,000 in taxpayer dollars to continue their legal battles against three Pequot tribes.

The town is requesting $65,000 to challenge the federal recognition petitions of the Eastern Pequot Tribe and the Paucatuck Eastern Pequot Tribe. The town has already spent about $200,000 challenging the tribes.

The town has also asked for $65,000 to fight the Department of Interior for its decision to take 165 acres of land into trust for the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation. The request is likely to be trimmed to $53,000, however, since the Supreme Court has declined to hear the case and the issue will be resolved in federal court.
