Towns steadfast on opposing trust land
JUNE 26, 2001

The leaders of three southeastern Connecticut towns on Monday refused to answer a request by the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation regarding their continued opposition to trust land.

The tribe has asked the towns to come up with a number of acres they would be willing to accept as trust land. But the towns say they are prevented by voter referendums from providing a figure.

The towns of Ledyard, North Stonington and Preston have repeatedly opposed attempts by the tribe to seek trust lands.
