FBI field narrowed to three

Three candidates are under final consideration to head the FBI, Bush administration officials said on Thursday.

The candidates are:
  • George Terwilliger, a Washington, DC, lawyer who helped out President Bush during the Florida election caess. A former deputy attorney general in the elder Bush administration.
  • Robert Mueller, US Attorney in San Francisco, California .
  • Sterling Johnson Jr., a federal judge who would be the first African-American to head the agency.

Leonard Peltier foe Louis J. Freeh is leaving his post as FBI director sometime this month.
