Tribe celebrates big land purchase

JUNE 9, 2000 Along with Pauite from throughout the country, the Burns Paiute Tribe of Oregon will celebrate a land purchase on its former reservation in Oregon. The federal government dismantled the tribes' 1.7 million acre reservation in 1883 as a result of the Bannock land wars. The 250-member tribe purchased a 1,760 acre ranch in Long Valley with the help of a $2 million wildlife mitigation grant from the Bonneville Power Administration. Get the Story:
