WEDNESDAY, JULY 18, 2001

The Department of Justice on Tuesday announced that the FBI is missing hundreds of laptop computers and guns.

At least one of the laptops contains classified information. Three others may contain sensitive materials.

In total, 450 firearms and 184 laptops are not accounted for. One missing gun was used in a crime in the South.

Yesterday's disclosure is part of an ongoing internal review of the FBI. Officials said it was the first time such a large review of FBI equipment has taken place.
