Senate appropriates tribal money

JULY 19, 2000 More than $60 million in appropriations for Washington State have been approved by the Senate. The appropriations are part of the funding being considered for the Department of the Interior for 2001 The funding includes:
- $15.5 million for construction of a Lummi Tribal School
- $5 million for the Western Washington Hatchery Reform Initiative, to redesign tribal hatcheries and develop sustainable fisheries
- $517,750 for infant-mortality programs for the Shoalwater Bay Indian Tribe, compared with $290,000 last year
