Residents of the Connecticut town of North Stonington are being asked to spend an additional $135,528 to continue challenging the federal recognition petitions of the Eastern Pequot Tribe and the Paucatuck Eastern Pequot Tribe.

Residents will vote on the budget request at a special town meeting next month during which an additional $19,243 is sought for a land-into-trust lawsuit affecting the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation.

If approved, the money would be spent in the current fiscal year. For the 2001-2002 budget, the town has allocated more than $100,000 to fight the tribes.
