State wants Coeur d'Alene Lake

JULY 27, 2000 The State of Idaho has asked the US Supreme Court to review two lower court decisions which have upheld the right of the Coeur d'Alene Tribe to the lower third of Lake Coeur d'Alene. The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals and US District Court have both ruled in favor of the tribe. The tribe has control over the southern third of the lake. The Ninth Circuit cited an 1873 Executive Order by President Ulysses S Grant and other Congressional actions which clearly show the tribe has control. Get the Story:
