State wants recognition rescinded

JULY 28, 2000 Connecticut Attorney General Richard Blumenthal has written John Leshy, Solicitor of the Department of Interior, asking him to rescind the grants of preliminary recognition to the Eastern Pequot and the Paucatuck Eastern Pequot Tribes. Blumenthal said Leshy should overturn the decisions made in March by Kevin Gover. He says Gover has a conflict on interest and is using the two tribes to pave the way for recognition of one of his former clients, the Golden Hill Paugassett Tribe, a state recognized tribe. Blumenthal has also asked the BIA to rescind the two decisions. Get the Story:
