Connecticut town and state officials said they were pleased with the information Bureau of Indian Affairs researchers presented in the two-day meeting held this week discussing the federal recognition of two Pequot tribes.

North Stonington First Selectman Nicholas H. Mullane said the researcher;s statements could help show that the town is right about the tribes. He said they are not Pequots at all, and if they are Indian, they could be of Narragansett heritage.

Attorney General Richard Blumenthal, who attended Tuesday's session, said the meeting revealed flaws in the decision making process. Blumenthal and the state could sue the Department of Interior.

The Eastern Pequot's lawyer also said the tribe was pleased with the meeting.
