Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation Chairman Kenneth Reels on Saturday said he is disappointed by a slight delay in talks with three Connecticut towns about trust lands.

The leaders of Ledyard, North Stonington and Preston were to provide the tribe with a list of questions on trust land by Friday. The town leaders said the questions will have to wait until tomorrow, pushing back an already scheduled meeting to September 10.

Reels is expressing concern the delay could frustrate voter approval of the settlement his tribe has proposed. To placate local concerns, the tribe is willing to limit land-into-trust applications to 880 acres for the next 35 years.

Town leaders, however, say they want finality on trust lands. But they said they would bring the issue to voters.
