Rep. Dan Burton, the Republican chairman of the House Government Reform, is accusing Attorney General John Ashcroft of hypocrisy for refusing to turn over the kinds of documents he sought as a Senator.

Ashcroft pushed his predecessor Janet Reno to turn over memos describing the decisions of prosecutors. But now his department is refusing to share them with the committee, citing privacy concerns.

Burton said he might try to force Ashcroft to appear before his committee if documents regarding two prosecutions aren't handed over.
