Judges say drug courts work
SEPTEMBER 12, 2000

Two judges in Wyoming want state lawmakers to continue funding drug courts in their counties and consider funding others, saying that the courts help prevent offenders from repeating crimes.

Drug courts are one of the programs often touted by Attorney General Janet Reno and the Department of Justice. Tribes throughout Indian Country are receiving grants to plan, implement, or enhance their own drug courts.

The focus behind the courts is to treat offenders who are drug users, instead of incarcerating them.
