SEPTEMBER 20, 2000 The Potawatomi Tribe and the County of Jackson met last week to discuss jurisdictional issues but couldn't agree on any limits or restrictions on the powers of tribal police. Jackson County Sheriff Daina Durham said that the state has total jurisdiction over the county, including the reservation. She said there have been problems between the county and tribal police, whom she says have interceded in county investigations. The tribe says it only wants to take care of matters on its own reservation. Get the Story:
