MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 24, 2001 The Golden Hill Paugussett Tribe's federal recognition lawsuit against the Bureau of Indian Affairs is scheduled to go to trial on November 14 in federal court in Connecticut. The state recognized tribe alleges the BIA has failed to make a final determination on its bid for federal acknowledgment in a timely manner. The BIA has thrice denied the tribe recognition but in 1999 agreed to reevaluate the tribe's petition under a more expansive and difficult set of criteria. Get the Story:
