The chief of the Golden Hill Paugussett Tribe on Monday told a Connecticut newspaper he was excited by an upcoming hearing addressing federal recognition.

A federal judge on November 14 will hear arguments on the tribe's lawsuit against the Bureau of Indian Affairs. The tribe says the BIA has failed to act on its federal recognition petition in a timely manner.

The tribe had been denied recognition in 19999. A former member of the Clinton administration agreed to have the BIA reconsider the petition based on a broader set of criteria.
