Response closes on Pequot recognitions

WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 5, 2001 Tuesday marked the end of a 30-day response period for the Eastern Pequot Tribe and the Paucatuck Eastern Pequot Tribe, both of whom are seeking federal recognition. The tribes used the time period to respond to comments they received about their respective petitions. The state of Connecticut and three local towns oppose the tribes. The Bureau of Indian Affairs is set to make a final determination on the tribes by the end of the year. Get the Story:
