The Oneida Nation of Wisconsin is not interested in dropping its land claim in exchange for a casino in New York, chairman Gerald Danforth said on Thursday.

Danforth denied an Associated Press story which reported the tribe was considering a swap. According to Sen. Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.), the tribe was interested in doing so in a letter he received.

Danforth, however, says Schumer misunderstood the letter. All the letter meant was that the two issues are connected, he said.

The land claim is still a top priority, Danforth added.
