TUESDAY, MARCH 12, 2002

A federal judge on Monday refused requests to reconsider a $247.9 million judgment award to the Cayuga Nation of New York.

U.S. District Judge Neal McCurn rejected a tribal request to have more interest added to the fund. He also said he would not remove interest from the award as sought by the state.

A jury determined 64,000 acres of land was worth $36.7 million. McCurn added interest for the years the Cayuga were denied the land.

Some local officials in New York and private landowner are urging the state to appeal the case.
