Blumenthal says report 'bombshell'

TUESDAY, MARCH 5, 2002 Even though the investigation into the Clinton administration's handling of federal recognition turned up no ties to political contributions or the gaming industry, Connecticut Attorney General Richard Blumenthal says the report shows why the system needs to be reformed. Blumenthal has been pushing a bill to take recognition powers away from the Bureau of Indian Affairs and give them to an independent commission. Former Assistant Secretary Kevin Gover supports such a move but current Bush officials oppose it. Get the Story:
