An anthropologist who has worked for the Quileute Tribe of Washington is being accused of staging an attack.

A detective in Washington believes Barbara Bocek faked the kidnapping and threats and isn't following up. Bocek says she was threatened for helping uncover human rights violations in Guatemala.

In an interview with The New York Times, defends her account, which she said occurred near her home in Washington. The FBI says it is investigating.

The group Amnesty International late last month released an "urgent" alert regarding Bocek's claim and said it has no reason to doubt her.
