The chairman of the Crow Tribe of Montana has been indicted in federal court on charges of conspiracy, bribery and stealing money from the tribe.

A grand jury indicted Clifford Bird in Ground on April 19 although he has yet to be formally charged. A hearing is set next Monday to address the allegations, which center around a vehicle scheme with a local car salesman.

Bird in Ground is alleged to have turned over ten tribally-owned cars to a car dealership for credit. The credit was then used by family members and friends to buy other cars, the indictment alleges.

Two people at the car dealership are charged along with Bird in Ground.
