A Navajo mother accused of murdering three of her children was a victim of domestic violence, a FBI agent testified in federal court on Monday.

Elvira Charley, 31, was arrested New Year's day at her home on the Navajo Reservation in Arizona after she called tribal police and informed them of the incident. She is being held in jail on federal charges.

Charley is being defended by John Trebon, an attorney infamous for helping his Indian clients escape tribal and federal jurisdiction.
